I recently purchased a wood Staunton-style chess set.  My new set did not
include extra queens, as some sets do.  Is there any source from which I can
obtain extra queens (or other single pieces, e.g. knights), without
purchasing an entire set of pieces?  I would be looking to ...

Since winter break is coming up, and I will not be going anywhere, I
would like to write an articles on some 19th century chess figure
(obscure is fine; the more colorful the better).
Any suggestions?
