The burning issue in 1999 was the question of who forged the signature of Richard Peterson to the 1999 National Elementary Championship contract. Richard Peterson claimed that someone in the USCF office, who must

| Handicap? (One player starts without her kingside rook) | 24 Nov 2004 04:01 GMT | 1 |
I'm playing chess against my girlfriend. I am a much stronger player, so I play with a handicap: I remove my kingside rook before the game begins, starting at this 5 point material disadvantage. I was wondering, is there a researched list of examples of such

| Chess Server/Site for sale (PTChess.com) | 24 Nov 2004 01:39 GMT | 1 |
PTChess.com has arrived to the end. The PTChess.com Administration has decided to close down the service on November 6th 2004. The lack of time and resources to dedicate to the project were the drivers behind this hard decision!

| Improving middle game | 23 Nov 2004 23:24 GMT | 7 |
I consider myself a 1400 player (i beat most of my opponents in that range now) and I'm making honest attempts at improving my game. I have seen that I open properly, but somewhere in the transition to the middle game, i dont play the correct moves when i play against higher

| Interesting Statement from FIDE | 23 Nov 2004 21:15 GMT | 2 |
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2038 I read the statement that: 1) FIDE admits that there are no bank garantees (after Kirsan said he has the bank guarantees on his desk!)

| A likely prospect: a match between clones of Fischer and Kasparov | 23 Nov 2004 19:21 GMT | 4 |
Most people believe that chess talent has much to do with genetics, and that cloning will be widespread before too long. I think it's quite likely that before too long some Kasparov or Fischer fans will decide to raise clones of them.

| Russian super championship | 23 Nov 2004 15:46 GMT | 20 |
The games are off to a fine start with only 4 results from the first 10 games. Kasparov, Grishuk, Svidler and Dreev obtaining wins. Too early to report on 'leaders' as such. The official site is www.russiachess.ru

Tseshkovski investing a quality to attack Kasparov's King, but the position does not really support the optimism. On the one hand, some people say that Kasparov crushes his opponents before the game even begins, on the other hand there are some voices that say that Tseshkovski ...

| DRAWnik - time for a change | 23 Nov 2004 13:07 GMT | 1 |
When is someone going to give DRAWnik a thrashing? He is so afraid of playing the big guns at the Russian event http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2020 He's sick alright. It's making me sick with all his lame excuses and hiding in the

| The 2002 USCF Delegate's Vote to Sell the Building | 23 Nov 2004 09:14 GMT | 1 |
The 2002 USCF Delegate's Vote to Sell the Building It is being argued by representatives of the Gang-of-Four that has taken over the USCF that at the USCF meeting in Cherry Hill NJ in August 2002 the Delegates voted to sell the building and this gave the

| Alekhine's death | 23 Nov 2004 08:45 GMT | 33 |
Alekhine's death in 1946 is even today a theme of controversy, discussion and, above all, mystification. A lot must be examined and re-examed since, so far, all of his biographers are simply wrong, to say the least ,concerning the most

| Whatever happened to the Master Emeritus title? | 22 Nov 2004 22:15 GMT | 3 |
I have just received a mailing that refers to Harold Dondis as the Chairman Emeritus of the US Chess Trust. The title of Master Emiritus was awarded by the USCF and included in every USCF rating list in the 1950s and 1960s.

| Mystery Interzonal Spots | 22 Nov 2004 06:25 GMT | 1 |
There are a couple of US Interzonal spots that I can't figure out. Lubosh Kavalek played in the 1976 Manila Interzonal, even though he had finished in a tie for 10-13th place in the 1975 Zonal. Walter Browne played in the 1985 Mendetaxco Interzonal, even though he had

| RR6 | 22 Nov 2004 05:16 GMT | 4 |
There is life beyond chess that prevented me from watching the games live, but now that I replayed the games, oh boy, was that an ugly win for Kasparov. Poor Dreev should not have lost the game if not for extreme Zeitnot. But then, Kasparov ought to have won at least one of the ...
