Is Beatriz Marinello having trouble because of the Patriot Act?
An interesting development has arisen. As everyone knows by now, The
USCF sold the building for approximately $513,000 and put the money in
a bank account with Beatriz Marinello as the signing authority.

The last round of the Russian championship is an anticlimax in terms of
result, because Kasparov clinched the title in the penultimate round, but in
terms of games, this last round nevertheless produced very interesting
games.
ICC no.allocation..30 Nov 2004 00:09 GMT4
G'day gruppen,
ICC's 'bot' allocates guest playing no's randomely & without fear or
favour. This is given, eg - 179, a 3 digit attractive no. versus the
more unwieldy 7996 for example. My policy is to reject outright no.'s
Getting a club site hosted in the UK29 Nov 2004 22:04 GMT2
I am putting together our club's website. (I recently posted on this topic.
Thanks for the replies.) I think we're ready to get the site up and running
but I'm having a problem finding a decent hosting company. As I understand
it the only issue is the site requires FrontPage ...

Benko book, Best Chess Book Ever Written
I just finished going through the new Benko book. Not only is it the
best chess book ever written, but I do not believe that there is even
a close second.

How did Kramnik get Draw Odds??
I am sure that many chess players are upset as I am that Kramnik was
allowed to keep his Birdbrain "World Championship" by DRAWING the

KK Karanja29 Nov 2004 14:29 GMT6
In 1986, the most promising and talented young player in America was
KK Karanja, aged 13. He was African-American in the truest sense of
the word, because his parents were diplomats from Kenya, but KK was
born in the USA. His full name was Kangugi Karanja, but everyone just

After Brissago and Moscow, the games here in San Diego feel a little like
coffeehouse games, but hey, I enjoy coffeehouse and even busker games too!
Nakamura and Gata Kamsky played enjoyable games worth replaying

Oh Happy Day29 Nov 2004 06:18 GMT1
I've been out of the USCF for a few years now, playing long games on
ICC instead.  I considered this weekend whether to play in a tourney,
which would have required re-joining the dreaded USCF, and giving
money to the weirdo's like Randy Bauer.  It was an easy decision, I
"Why must I lose to this idiot?"28 Nov 2004 14:03 GMT4
"Why must I lose ro this idiot?"  is used as a tagline to various
postings in rgcm.  I believe Nimzovich's original remark, in German,
was "Gegen diesen Idioten muss ich verlieren!"
Now I only took a year of college German, but it seems to me that the

"Good" Chessplayer Killed in Iraq28 Nov 2004 02:08 GMT2
Interesting story on bbcnews.com, about the death of a Marine, Lt.
Malcolm, who was evidently a keen chessplayer.
