| Fritz v Topalov in Bilbao | 16 Oct 2004 19:27 GMT | 16 |
Superagressive French defence by Topalov with g5, g4 and h5. Fritz pulled the King Bishop all the way back to b1. Optically, Topalov steamrollers Fritz, but intuitively, one may suspect that this is the wrong kind of anti-computer chess.

| WCC Game 12 | 14 Oct 2004 15:58 GMT | 5 |
A Caro-Kann defence by Leko, in other words a drawish defence by a draw master. Clearly, now that Kramnik is in a must win situation, Leko puts the onus on Kramnik to take risks. Sofar, i.e. at move 17, I see no sign of Kramnik latching out with c4 or similar.

| WCC Game 11 | 14 Oct 2004 08:19 GMT | 10 |
Kramnik on the black side of a hedgehog Sicilian plays the allegedly novelty Nf6-Nh5 to hit the white Bf4 forcing Bg5, and guess what, Kramnik withdrew his Knight back to f6! This is a novelty to achieve a draw! At this stage of the match???

| World Champion weenies | 14 Oct 2004 04:14 GMT | 10 |
Looking over the Kramnik-Leko match, I find, in the first 10 games, no less than 5 that are drawn with no battle to speak of: game 2 (18 moves), game 3 (23 moves), 6 (20 moves), 7 (21 moves), and 9 (16 moves). It seems that as soon as the players get out of their home preparation ...
