| The loss of Linares | 07 Mar 2004 23:56 GMT | 12 |
A glance at the crosstable at Linares will reveal the loss that chess at the highest levels is suffering from these days: a lack of fighting spirit. The players are AFRAID to take risks against their strongest rivals.

| Need recommendations on endgame books... | 07 Mar 2004 20:06 GMT | 7 |
Is there a holy grail of books out there? Whenever I get into the endgame, even a bishop up, I get that sinking feeling. It is clearly the weakest part of my game. I use good tactics and strategy in the midgame, only to lose a won game in the end. Hmmff.

| Kramnik's Undeserved Reputation | 06 Mar 2004 14:17 GMT | 15 |
Watching Linares, I noticed a steady stream of comments about how boring Kramnik is, about how he only draws, never plays exciting lines etc etc. But when you look closely, so far in this tournament, Kramnik has: Tried out a whole new opening repertoire.
