As a curiosity. What OS and compiler was your choice for running crafty on a 4-way PC to obtain 7 to 11 Mnps? As I understand you mentioned using an Opteron processor. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I recently purchased Chessmaster 10th edition only to be disappointed to learn it won't run on my computer due to hardware considerations. If anyone knows the latest version of Chessmaster that will run on a: 500 MHZ AMD K-6 (I believe that's equivalent to a Pentium 2)

I installed Arena 1.1 and Crafty 19.17 SE. If I load wcrafty as a Winboard engine then all is well. If I install it as a UCI engine (I install the wb2uci application instead) it will not use the book and crashes

I have come to thew conclusion that the best chess palyer is the one that can forsee more moves ahead than his opponent does! Correct me if i am wrong. How many moves Kasparov can forsee?

somehow I got the idea to write a chess program. The first idea was to write just a client for a chess server. Now i am thinking about the fastest way to check if a given input move is legal or not. Lets say i have just an 8x8 byte array to encode the current position.

So I purchased Fritz 8, created an account on Playchess.com, entered my CD key, and logged off earlier today. Now, when I try to get back on, it says "Too many wrong password attempts. Account locked." What gives? How do I get my account back?

I know even as I am asking the question that it is flawed. But lets say you play Blitz games on ICC, is there anyway to figure out how you are doing compared to the rest of the pool percentile-wise?
