Has chess openings been solved?  In other words has it been determined
what the single best response is to each position that can occur in say
the first 10 moves of a game?

Dr Hyatt-crafty config.28 Feb 2005 11:35 GMT1
As a curiosity.  What OS and compiler was your choice for running crafty on
a 4-way PC to obtain 7 to 11 Mnps?
As I understand you mentioned using an Opteron processor.  Please correct me
if I am wrong.

Chessmaster question28 Feb 2005 03:23 GMT2
I recently purchased Chessmaster 10th edition only to be disappointed
to learn it won't run on my computer due to hardware considerations.
If anyone knows the latest version of Chessmaster that will run on a:
    500 MHZ AMD K-6 (I believe that's equivalent to a Pentium 2)

I installed Arena 1.1 and Crafty 19.17 SE.
If I load wcrafty as a Winboard engine then all is well.
If I install it as a UCI engine (I install the wb2uci
application instead) it will not use the book and crashes

checking for legal moves27 Feb 2005 04:55 GMT4

write just a client for a chess server. Now i am thinking about the
fastest way to check if a given input move is legal or not.
Lets say i have just an 8x8 byte array to encode the current position.

Playchess.com "Too many wrong password attempts"27 Feb 2005 03:53 GMT1
So I purchased Fritz 8, created an account on Playchess.com, entered my CD
key, and logged off earlier today.  Now, when I try to get back on, it says
"Too many wrong password attempts.  Account locked."
What gives?  How do I get my account back?
Fritz v5 - Can I set up an end geme for the program to solve?26 Feb 2005 21:31 GMT3
I want to be able to check (and/or solve) newspaper chess puzzles with Fritz
(version 5).  I cannot find any reference to this kind of capability in the
help pages provided.
I would like to be able to place a few pieces on the board, say who's turn
Fritz 5.32 Playing Strength26 Feb 2005 21:23 GMT1
I'd like to adjust playing strength in Fritz 5.32 closer to my level,
about 1100.  How do I do it?
I use Fritz 5-32.eng in various chessbase user interfaces, including
Fritz itself, Junior and Hiarcs.  There doesn't seem to be any way to
How do ELO ratings compare with Percentiles?24 Feb 2005 12:45 GMT1
I know even as I am asking the question that it is flawed.
But lets say you play Blitz games on ICC, is there anyway to figure
out how you are doing compared to the rest of the pool
percentile-wise?
