Thanks for the comments. Like I said, right now I'm after a dedicated table top machine. The Mephisto Atlanta is still available here. I like the idea of a light on each square. Does anyone have experience of this machine?

I am interested in buying the Chessbase "Big Database 2005" It has around 2.9 million games and I am wondering if I can use it with Chess Assistant 7.1. I have used CA 7.1 with smaller Chessbase databases without a problem.

I have been reading a lot of material on the alpha beta search algorithm. Till now all the algorithms have detailed on how to find the best score at a given depth. I wanted to know how can one keep track of the moves made to reach that score?

I've downloaded Arena which was recommended as the best free program. I'm not a techie , so can't see how I can load up this GUI with a real playing program like say GNUchess. I have no knowledge of DOS I'm afraid. Rob N
