Sloan, Brenan Nierman, Brian Lafferty are mindless idiots31 Jul 2007 01:59 GMT1

unless he has one of those rare moments when he posts something of
Stanley Random Chess - an Introduction27 Jul 2007 19:28 GMT5
Previously I have made a contribution in this newsgroup about Stanley Random
Chess (SRC).  In the interests of the dedication of other Stanley Random
Chess fans to this memorable and exciting variant, I have recently published
"The GM Topov Stanley Random Chess Files" online.
Brian P. Lafferty lacks trustworthiness according to Hal Terrie24 Jul 2007 13:40 GMT1
So now one is not entitled to opinions?
"In my opinion, Mr. Lafferty lacks even the slightest trustworthiness.
I believe the evidence shows that he came into this forum with a chip
on his shoulder, determined to make trouble from the very first day.

so much nonsense is posted to those groups. Anyone interested in chess
in invited to join. The list owner (me) will have ...
Brian P Lafferty defends criminal conducts by the board23 Jul 2007 16:23 GMT1
Assuming that the ballots were not stolen or given under coercion, I
don't know what can be done, or if anything should be done. If a
person asked another for recommendations to follow and filled them in
verbatim, how would that be materially different from handing the

"Impenetrable Fortress" Refutation22 Jul 2007 05:30 GMT26
In another thread, Sam Sloan described a game between Norman
Whitaker and the many-time champion of Mexico, a Mr. Ferriz.  I
already noted in that thread that the move ...Nd4 did not threaten
"mate", but rather, a fork which nets a Rook to add to Black's already

Cloth chess pieces and board03 Jul 2007 11:02 GMT2
I have a relative in prison and they can only use a cloth chessboard and
cloth chess pieces.  Nothing hard like plastic is allowed to avoid the
making of weapons in prison.
Does anyone know where I can buy a set of this nature ?
Distant Opposition - finding endgame study by Grigorieff02 Jul 2007 19:10 GMT2
In my copy of "Basic Chess Endings" by Reuben Fine he refers to a puzzle
(No 53c) by Grigorieff demonstrating the use of the "distant opposition".
RF gives (in descriptive notation of course);
White: K at KB8 P's at QKt4 and KR4
