IIRC, Fischer made that decision before the Batsford edition came
out, but Batsford's butchery gave him no reason to reconsider. For some
details, I refer interested readers to "Fischer's Fury" by Edward
Winter:

Readers wanting Fischer's original notes should get the 1969 version
from Simon & Schuster, though they will have to accept descriptive
notation.

Amazon.co.uk has a second-hand copy for 17.50UKP, which is about $30US,
but that's probably not much cheaper once you add shipping to the US.
Also, I didn't check if this was the original edition or the later
Batsford algebraic edition with `corrected' annotation that is, I've
heard, the reason that Fischer won't let anyone reissue the book.

Dave.

I checked Amazon and went into sticker shock! Cheapest used copy seems to be
$44. Keep looking in 2nd hand bookstores? Phil
