Former chessplayer, now world champion athlete
Chvsanchez - 29 Jul 2009 08:57 GMT 91-year-old Efraín Wachs have just won the gold medal in the cross country race at the WMA Championships 2009.
70 years ago he had defeated Alekhine.

[quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > http://english.wma2009.org > http://www.lanacion.com.ar/nota.asp?nota_id=1156077 Christian, I don't see anyone named Wachs in the index of opponents in the Skinner & Verhoeven collection, which to my knowledge is the most complete collection of Alekhine games. When/where did this game take place?
Chvsanchez - 30 Jul 2009 07:21 GMT >I can't find any proof that he beat Alekhine in a game in 1938 The proof is Wachs himself. He states in several interviews (mainly this: http://ar.geocities.com/ajedrezhistorico/Notas/Wachs.htm) how he, being the champion of Casilda, played Alekhine along with ten local players and the champion of San Nicolás, in 1938 in Rosario.
His game was the last of the simultaneous display, he held the strong attack, put a pawn on the seventh rank, made a combination in the endgame and promoted it. Alekhine got angry, knock the pieces over and refused to sign the scoresheet. (The scoresheet get lost on a house move.)
Taylor, the occasion should be somewhere in my hard disk, but this has to wait until the week end.

If Wachs is right, then we have not only an unknown Alekhine game, but a whole lost simul exhibition. According to Skinner & Verhoeven, Alekhine spent almost all of 1938 in Europe, but he did make a brief trip to South America, for a tournament in Montevideo and some exhibitions in Buenos Aires. They record details of only one simul, a 25-board event in Bunenos Aires on March 29, but mention others in passing, the last on April 29. I doubt Alekhine would have stayed inactive for a whole month, so presumably the simul with Wachs occurred some time within that interval, but records of it have been lost.

Rosario, Saturday 22 July 1939, 21.00-1.30
25 opponents (+20 =3 -2)

The Rosario simul is apparently one of many they didn't have records for. Wachs' report of AAA's nasty behavior fits with other reports around that time. Maybe you should pass this information on to S&H?

The Skinner & Verhoeven book identifies all of Alekhine's opponents, whether in GM tournaments, simuls or whatever. It lists no one named Wachs. That's why I'm wondering if Sánchez has knowledge of a hitherto lost game.

I don't have the book, but usually they list only opponents with known game scores. For example, I know names of people who are said to have played Morphy, but are not usually listed as Morphy opponents, because no game score was kept. My own father tells me that he played Koltanowski, but he never kept the score, and it would be pretty hard to verify that this ever occurred.

Second, Mr. Wachs may have changed his maiden name when he legally married in San Francisco. Recall your pederast comments TK and connect the dots.

I beat Alekhine because he gave you der bliks, and now I beat these kalikes and now it's time for the airing of grievances!

We'll wait for that movie (not). Searching for Efrain Wachs.
If it has a gay scene it might have a shot at an Oscar, otherwise nothing but chess freaks will enjoy it.
