GM Vassily Ivanchuk is currently ranked 5th in the world with the ELO 2752 (as of July 26th 2005). At one point he was World # 3. He is the highest rated player from Ukraine. He led the Ukrainian team to Gold at the Chess Calivia Chess Olympiad 2004 in Spain. Ivanchuk also won the European Championship. He was the finalist of the 2002 FIDE Knock Out World Chess Championship. His major victories are: 1996 Corus Chess Tournament, Linares in 1989, 1991 and 1995. Canadian Open 2005. Ivanchuk is known for his innovative moves which are often referred to as "chuckies" by the chess world.
