Adams vs Hydra Last Game

Thread view:
PeteCasso - 27 Jun 2005 15:21 GMT
A Sicilian wherein Hydra surprisingly consented to a Saemish bind with 9 ..
d6

A closed position in Hydra's opening book?
What trick does Hydra have up its sleeves?
PeteCasso - 27 Jun 2005 16:55 GMT
There is no Hydra trick apparent even at move 23. A scary intermezzo was
when Adams played 15 f4 (instead of f3) which could open up the position.
But he followed up with Ne5-c7xBe6.

Giving up the beautiful Ne5 is perhaps not everyone's taste, but it results
in the blockaded position that we have now where Adams has some space
advantage everything else being about the same, what a welcome relief!

Go, Adams, go!

Oops, I meant Nd5 (not Ne5), but message below is the same.

... and yaay, yaay, yaay ... Hydra committed positional blunders a4?? and
Re7?? in the closed position, permitting Adams the pawnbreak c5!! and Be6!!

Pending further analysis of course, this is wonderful play of Adams!

According to ChessBase, Hydra's performance rating is 3153, and Adams' 1784
(no typo).

In this last game,
This picture could motivate Adams if he has a heart :

Adams is British, not French like you, so to motivate him, you got to tie a
big money bag to the tree, not a virgin!

I am surprised but what you said. I thought it money was rather a US
motivation

Probalby Adams is going to loose this  last game.

I have listed the future opponents of hydra :

You are mistaken, US masters like bickering a lot better.

Adams obviously isn't motivated as much as you think by money as the offer
of $10k per draw and $25k per win has only induced him to win $10k in six
games.  I'd expected he'd do rather better than that. :-(

Yes, I'm dismayed at the outcome of the match and even a bit upset as I
wrote the lines below. From a greater scheme of things, there is insult in
emulation being better than original. Like emulating phrases and being
better than Shakespeare.
